Details
A vulnerability was found in 1Panel 1.4.3/1.5.0. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function LoadFromFile of the file api/v1/file.go of the component Configuration File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
1Panel is an open source Linux server operation and maintenance management panel. In version 1.4.3, arbitrary file reads allow an attacker to read arbitrary important configuration files on the server. In the `api/v1/file.go` file, there is a function called `LoadFromFile`, which directly reads the file by obtaining the requested path `parameter[path]`. The request parameters are not filtered, resulting in a background arbitrary file reading vulnerability. Version 1.5.0 has a patch for this issue.
The weakness was published 08/10/2023 as GHSA-pv7q-v9mv-9mh5. The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-39964 since 08/07/2023. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 1.5.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com.
