Details
A vulnerability was found in eProsima Fast DDS up to 2.6.5/2.9.1/2.10.1/2.11.0. It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown part. The manipulation of the argument PID_PROPERTY_LIST with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
eprosima Fast DDS is a C++ implementation of the Data Distribution Service standard of the Object Management Group. Prior to versions 2.11.1, 2.10.2, 2.9.2, and 2.6.6, even after the fix at commit 3492270, malformed `PID_PROPERTY_LIST` parameters cause heap overflow at a different program counter. This can remotely crash any Fast-DDS process. Versions 2.11.1, 2.10.2, 2.9.2, and 2.6.6 contain a patch for this issue.
The weakness was disclosed 08/11/2023 as GHSA-mf55-5747-c4pv. It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2023-39947 since 08/07/2023. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
