A vulnerability was found in OWASP Coraza WAF up to 3.0.0. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function log.Fatalf of the component Requests Handler. OWASP Coraza WAF is a golang modsecurity compatible web application firewall library. Due to the misuse of `log.Fatalf`, the application using coraza crashed after receiving crafted requests from attackers. The application will immediately crash after receiving a malicious request that triggers an error in `mime.ParseMediaType`. This issue was patched in version 3.0.1.
The weakness was shared 08/26/2023 as GHSA-c2pj-v37r-2p6h. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-40586 since 08/16/2023. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Upgrading to version 3.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch a5239ba3ce839e14d9b4f9486e1b4a403dcade8c is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
