A vulnerability was found in Jupyter Server up to 2.7.1. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the component Login Link Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a redirect vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-601. A web application accepts a user-controlled input that specifies a link to an external site, and uses that link in a Redirect. This simplifies phishing attacks. Impacted is integrity. CVE summarizes:
jupyter-server is the backend for Jupyter web applications. Open Redirect Vulnerability. Maliciously crafted login links to known Jupyter Servers can cause successful login or an already logged-in session to be redirected to arbitrary sites, which should be restricted to Jupyter Server-served URLs. This issue has been addressed in commit `29036259` which is included in release 2.7.2. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
The weakness was published 08/29/2023 as GHSA-r726-vmfq-j9j3. The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-39968 since 08/07/2023. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
