A vulnerability was found in Eclipse Mosquitto up to 2.0.15. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component QoS 2 Message Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
The broker in Eclipse Mosquitto 1.3.2 through 2.x before 2.0.16 has a memory leak that can be abused remotely when a client sends many QoS 2 messages with duplicate message IDs, and fails to respond to PUBREC commands. This occurs because of mishandling of EAGAIN from the libc send function.
The weakness was presented 09/01/2023 as CSNC-2023-001. The advisory is shared for download at compass-security.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-28366 since 03/15/2023.
