A vulnerability has been found in Cacti up to 1.2.24 (Log Management Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function ajax_get_branches of the file reports_user.php. The manipulation of the argument tree_id with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Cacti is an open source operational monitoring and fault management framework. An authenticated SQL injection vulnerability was discovered which allows authenticated users to perform privilege escalation and remote code execution. The vulnerability resides in the `reports_user.php` file. In `ajax_get_branches`, the `tree_id` parameter is passed to the `reports_get_branch_select` function without any validation. This issue has been addressed in version 1.2.25. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
The weakness was released 09/06/2023 as GHSA-gj95-7xr8-9p7g. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-39358 since 07/28/2023. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
