A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in User Submitted Posts Plugin up to 20230811 on WordPress (WordPress Plugin). Affected by this issue is the function usp_gallery of the component Shortcode Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The User Submitted Posts plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin's [usp_gallery] shortcode in versions up to, and including, 20230811 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user supplied attributes like 'before'. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
The weakness was released 09/06/2023. The advisory is shared for download at wordfence.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-4779 since 09/05/2023. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
