Details
A vulnerability was found in E-merge unace 1.2b. It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown code block. The manipulation of the argument line with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple buffer overflows in unace 1.2b allow attackers to execute arbitrary code via (1) 2 overflows in ACE archives, (2) a long command line argument, or (3) certain "Ready for next volume" messages.
The bug was discovered 07/21/2005. The weakness was presented 02/22/2005 by Ulf Harnhammar as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2005-0160 since 01/27/2005. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
