Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Faktory up to 1.7.x. This affects an unknown code block of the component Web Dashboard. The manipulation of the argument days with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
Faktory is a language-agnostic persistent background job server. Prior to version 1.8.0, the Faktory web dashboard can suffer from denial of service by a crafted malicious url query param `days`. The vulnerability is related to how the backend reads the `days` URL query parameter in the Faktory web dashboard. The value is used directly without any checks to create a string slice. If a very large value is provided, the backend server ends up using a significant amount of memory and causing it to crash. Version 1.8.0 fixes this issue.
The weakness was published 09/21/2023 as GHSA-x4hh-vjm7-g2jv. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2023-37279 since 06/29/2023. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 1.8.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
