A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Vyper up to 0.3.9. Affected is the function _abi_decode. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a calculation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-682. Vyper is a Pythonic Smart Contract Language for the EVM. The `_abi_decode()` function does not validate input when it is nested in an expression. Uses of `_abi_decode()` can be constructed which allow for bounds checking to be bypassed resulting in incorrect results. This issue has not yet been fixed, but a fix is expected in release `0.3.10`. Users are advised to reference pull request #3626.
The weakness was released 09/27/2023 as GHSA-cx2q-hfxr-rj97. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2023-42460 since 09/08/2023. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
