The Avaya IP Office Phone Manager, and other products such as the IP Softphone, stores sensitive data in cleartext in a registry key, which allows local and possibly remote users to steal usernames and passwords and impersonate other users via keys such as Avaya\IP400\Generic.
The weakness was presented 02/22/2005 by Adrian Pastor (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.avaya.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-0506 since 02/22/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
