Glftpd up to 2.0 Rc7 sitenfo.sh path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Glftpd up to 2.0 Rc7 (File Transfer Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file sitenfo.sh. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in sitenfo.sh, sitezipchk.sh, and siteziplist.sh in Glftpd 1.26 to 2.00 allow remote authenticated users to (1) determine the existence of arbitrary files, (2) list files in restricted directories, or (3) read arbitrary files from within ZIP or gzip files, via .. (dot dot) sequences and globbing ("*") characters in a SITE NFO command.

The weakness was disclosed 03/30/2005 by Paul Craig (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-0483 since 02/19/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 17245 (glFTPd Multiple Script ZIP File Handling Arbitrary File / Directory Access), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FTP and running in the context r.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (19401), Tenable (17245), SecurityFocus (BID 12586†), OSVDB (14015†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-7257†). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
