Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in D-Link DAP-X1860 up to 1.01b05-01. Affected by this issue is the function parsing_xml_stasurvey in the library libcgifunc.so of the component SSID Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A command injection in the parsing_xml_stasurvey function inside libcgifunc.so of the D-Link DAP-X1860 repeater 1.00 through 1.01b05-01 allows attackers (within range of the repeater) to run shell commands as root during the setup process of the repeater, via a crafted SSID. Also, network names containing single quotes (in the range of the repeater) can result in a denial of service.
The weakness was released 10/10/2023. The advisory is shared for download at redteam-pentesting.de. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-45208 since 10/05/2023. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 02/09/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
