Details
A vulnerability was found in Siemens CP-8031 MASTER MODULE and CP-8050 MASTER MODULE CPCI85 and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file /sicweb-ajax/tmproot/ of the component Web Server. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
A vulnerability has been identified in CP-8031 MASTER MODULE (All versions < CPCI85 V05.11), CP-8050 MASTER MODULE (All versions < CPCI85 V05.11). The web server of affected devices fails to properly sanitize user input for the /sicweb-ajax/tmproot/ endpoint. This could allow an authenticated remote attacker to traverse directories on the system and download arbitrary files. By exploring active session IDs, the vulnerability could potentially be leveraged to escalate privileges to the administrator role.
The weakness was presented 10/10/2023 as ssa-770890. The advisory is shared at cert-portal.siemens.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-42796 since 09/14/2023.
