Nextcloud server is an open source home cloud platform. Affected versions of Nextcloud stored OAuth2 tokens in plaintext which allows an attacker who has gained access to the server to potentially elevate their privilege. This issue has been addressed and users are recommended to upgrade their Nextcloud Server to version 25.0.8, 26.0.3 or 27.0.1. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
The weakness was disclosed 10/16/2023 as GHSA-hhgv-jcg9-p4m9. The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-45151 since 10/04/2023. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1555 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 25.0.8, 26.0.3 or 27.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
