Details
A vulnerability was found in Oracle Communications Cloud Native Core Network Exposure Function 23.1.3 (Cloud Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component Linux. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
systemd before 247 does not adequately block local privilege escalation for some Sudo configurations, e.g., plausible sudoers files in which the "systemctl status" command may be executed. Specifically, systemd does not set LESSSECURE to 1, and thus other programs may be launched from the less program. This presents a substantial security risk when running systemctl from Sudo, because less executes as root when the terminal size is too small to show the complete systemctl output.
The weakness was disclosed 10/17/2023 as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - October 2023. The advisory is shared for download at oracle.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-26604. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 208694 (Oracle Linux 7 : systemd (ELSA-2024-7705)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
