A vulnerability classified as critical was found in ILIAS 7.25. This vulnerability affects the function execQuoted of the file /Services/Utilities/classes/class.ilUtil.php. ILIAS 7.25 (2023-09-12) allows any authenticated user to execute arbitrary operating system commands remotely, when a highly privileged account accesses an XSS payload. The injected commands are executed via the exec() function in the execQuoted() method of the ilUtil class (/Services/Utilities/classes/class.ilUtil.php) This allows attackers to inject malicious commands into the system, potentially compromising the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the ILIAS installation and the underlying operating system.
The weakness was disclosed 10/26/2023. The advisory is available at rehmeinfosec.de. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-45869 since 10/14/2023. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1202 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
