A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer up to 6 (Web Browser). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Position Element Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Cross-domain vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 allows remote attackers to access restricted information from other domains via an object tag with a data parameter that references a link on the attacker s originating site that specifies a Location HTTP header that references the target site, which then makes that content available through the outerHTML attribute of the object, aka "Redirect Cross-Domain Information Disclosure Vulnerability."
The weakness was presented 08/08/2006 by Sam Thomas as MS06-042 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-3280 since 06/28/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
