Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in PostgreSQL up to 16.0 (Database Software). This affects the function aggregate of the component Function Call Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
A memory disclosure vulnerability was found in PostgreSQL that allows remote users to access sensitive information by exploiting certain aggregate function calls with 'unknown'-type arguments. Handling 'unknown'-type values from string literals without type designation can disclose bytes, potentially revealing notable and confidential information. This issue exists due to excessive data output in aggregate function calls, enabling remote users to read some portion of system memory.
The weakness was disclosed 11/10/2023. It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2023-5868 since 10/31/2023. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
