Details
A vulnerability was found in Discourse up to 3.1.2/3.2.0.beta2. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is some unknown processing of the component Theme Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
Discourse is an open source platform for community discussion. Prior to version 3.13 of the `stable` branch and version 3.2.0.beta3 of the `beta` and `tests-passed` branches, some theme components allow users to add svgs with unlimited `height` attributes, and this can affect the availability of subsequent replies in a topic. Most Discourse instances are unaffected, only instances with the svgbob or the mermaid theme component are within scope. The issue is patched in version 3.13 of the `stable` branch and version 3.2.0.beta3 of the `beta` and `tests-passed` branches. As a workaround, disable or remove the relevant theme components.
The weakness was published 11/10/2023. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2023-46130 since 10/16/2023. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
