Details
A vulnerability was found in aio-libs aiohttp up to 3.8.5. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component HTTP Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a request smuggling vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-444. The product acts as an intermediary HTTP agent
(such as a proxy or firewall) in the data flow between two
entities such as a client and server, but it does not
interpret malformed HTTP requests or responses in ways that
are consistent with how the messages will be processed by
those entities that are at the ultimate destination. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. The summary by CVE is:
aiohttp is an asynchronous HTTP client/server framework for asyncio and Python. The HTTP parser in AIOHTTP has numerous problems with header parsing, which could lead to request smuggling. This parser is only used when AIOHTTP_NO_EXTENSIONS is enabled (or not using a prebuilt wheel). These bugs have been addressed in commit `d5c12ba89` which has been included in release version 3.8.6. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for these issues.
The weakness was released 11/14/2023. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-47627 since 11/07/2023. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 212515 (Debian dsa-5828 : python-aiohttp-doc - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 3.8.6 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (212515) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2024-0949). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
