Details
A vulnerability was found in TP-Link Archer A54 (unknown version). It has been classified as critical. This affects the function dm_fillObjByStr of the file libcmm.so. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
TP-Link Archer A54 libcmm.so dm_fillObjByStr Stack-based Buffer Overflow Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows network-adjacent attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of TP-Link Archer A54 routers. Authentication is required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the file libcmm.so. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a fixed-length stack-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of root. Was ZDI-CAN-22262.
The weakness was released 11/15/2023 as ZDI-23-1625. The advisory is shared at zerodayinitiative.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2023-44448 since 09/28/2023. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
