To fix this issue, it is recommended to deploy a patch.
Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel (Operating System) (version now known). It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function nvmet_execute_admin_connect/nvmet_execute_io_connect of the file drivers/nvme/target/fabrics-cmd.c of the component TCP Subsystem. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
An out-of-bounds read vulnerability was found in the NVMe-oF/TCP subsystem in the Linux kernel. This flaw allows a remote attacker to send a crafted TCP packet, triggering a heap-based buffer overflow that results in kmalloc data to be printed (and potentially leaked) to the kernel ring buffer (dmesg).
The weakness was presented 11/16/2023. It is possible to read the advisory at lore.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2023-6121 since 11/14/2023. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
The exploit is shared for download at lore.kernel.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 240010 (TencentOS Server 2: kernel (TSSA-2024:1031)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at lore.kernel.org.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (240010) and EUVD (EUVD-2023-58376). Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
