A vulnerability was found in chrisbadgett LifterLMS Plugin up to 7.4.2 on WordPress (WordPress Plugin). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function maybe_serve_export. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. The LifterLMS – WordPress LMS Plugin for eLearning plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Directory Traversal in versions up to, and including, 7.4.2 via the maybe_serve_export function. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with administrator or LMS manager access and above, to read the contents of arbitrary CSV files on the server, which can contain sensitive information as well as removing those files from the server.
The weakness was published 11/22/2023 by Hüseyin TintaŞ. The advisory is shared at wordfence.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-6160 since 11/15/2023. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
