Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Net-SNMP up to 5.9.1 (Network Management Software). Affected is the function NET-SNMP-AGENT-MIB::nsLogTable of the component OID Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
net-snmp provides various tools relating to the Simple Network Management Protocol. Prior to version 5.9.2, a user with read-write credentials can use a malformed OID in a `SET` request to `NET-SNMP-AGENT-MIB::nsLogTable` to cause a NULL pointer dereference. Version 5.9.2 contains a patch. Users should use strong SNMPv3 credentials and avoid sharing the credentials. Those who must use SNMPv1 or SNMPv2c should use a complex community string and enhance the protection by restricting access to a given IP address range.
The weakness was presented 12/07/2023. The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2022-24808 since 02/10/2022. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
