A vulnerability was found in Paul Vixie Vixie cron 4.1. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part of the component crontab. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a symlink vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-61. The product, when opening a file or directory, does not sufficiently account for when the file is a symbolic link that resolves to a target outside of the intended control sphere. crontab in Vixie cron 4.1, when running with the -e option, allows local users to read the cron files of other users by changing the file being edited to a symlink. NOTE: there is insufficient information to know whether this is a duplicate of CVE-2001-0235.
