Details
A vulnerability was found in IDEMIA SIGMA Lite & Lite +, SIGMA Wide, SIGMA Extreme, MorphoWave Compact, XP, VisionPass and MorphoWave SP and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the component DesFire Key Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
When reading DesFire keys, the function that reads the card isn't properly checking the boundaries when copying internally the data received. This allows a heap based buffer overflow that could lead to a potential Remote Code Execution on the targeted device. This is especially problematic if you use Default DESFire key.
The weakness was released 12/15/2023. It is possible to read the advisory at idemia.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-33221 since 05/18/2023. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
