The secure script in LogWatch before 2.6-2 allows attackers to prevent LogWatch from detecting malicious activity via certain strings in the secure file that are later used as part of a regular expression, which causes the parser to crash, aka "logwatch log processing regular expression DoS."
The bug was discovered 04/19/2005. The weakness was disclosed 05/02/2005 with Red Hat as Bug 137502 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-1061 since 04/12/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
