A vulnerability was found in Paxton Net2 up to 6.07 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component Root Certificate. When installing the Net2 software a root certificate is installed into the trusted store. A potential hacker could access the installer batch file or reverse engineer the source code to gain access to the root certificate password. Using the root certificate and password they could then create their own certificates to emulate another site. Then by establishing a proxy service to emulate the site they could monitor traffic passed between the end user and the site allowing access to the data content.
The weakness was released 12/19/2023. The advisory is shared for download at paxton-access.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-43870 since 09/25/2023. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1110.001.
