Details
A vulnerability was found in oFono (the affected version is unknown). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown code of the component SMS Decoder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
A flaw was found in ofono, an Open Source Telephony on Linux. A stack overflow bug is triggered within the decode_status_report() function during the SMS decoding. It is assumed that the attack scenario is accessible from a compromised modem, a malicious base station, or just SMS. There is a bound check for this memcpy length in decode_submit(), but it was forgotten in decode_status_report().
The weakness was released 12/21/2023 as ZDI-23-1860. It is possible to read the advisory at zerodayinitiative.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-4232 since 08/08/2023. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
