Details
A vulnerability was found in SQLite SQLite3 up to 3.43.0 (Database Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function sessionReadRecord of the file ext/session/sqlite3session.c of the component make alltest Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was shared 12/25/2023 by Junwha Hong and Wonil Jang with UNIST S2Lab as confirmed posting (Forum). It is possible to read the advisory at sqlite.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-7104. Technical details as well as a exploit are known.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 207951 (Debian dla-3907 : lemon - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at sqlite.org.
