A vulnerability has been found in JAWS 0.3/0.4/0.5 Beta2 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function newterm of the file glossarymodel.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the NewTerm function in GlossaryModel.php in JAWS 0.4 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) term or (2) description.
The bug was discovered 04/21/2005. The weakness was shared 05/02/2005 by Paul (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-1231 since 04/24/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
