Details
A vulnerability was found in PrestaShop up to 8.1.2 (E-Commerce Management Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function isCleanHtml of the component Form Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. This is going to have an impact on integrity. CVE summarizes:
PrestaShop is an open-source e-commerce platform. Prior to version 8.1.3, the isCleanHtml method is not used on this this form, which makes it possible to store a cross-site scripting payload in the database. The impact is low because the HTML is not interpreted in BO, thanks to twig's escape mechanism. In FO, the cross-site scripting attack is effective, but only impacts the customer sending it, or the customer session from which it was sent. This issue affects those who have a module fetching these messages from the DB and displaying it without escaping HTML. Version 8.1.3 contains a patch for this issue.
The weakness was presented 01/03/2024 as GHSA-vr7m-r9vm-m4wf. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-21628 since 12/29/2023. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Upgrading to version 8.1.3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch c3d78b7e49f5fe49a9d07725c3174d005deaa597 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
