Linux Kernel up to 5.10 eBPF memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability categorized as critical has been discovered in Linux Kernel up to 5.10. The affected element is an unknown function of the component eBPF. Such manipulation leads to memory corruption. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2021-3600. Local access is required to approach this attack. No exploit exists. It is advisable to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10 (Operating System). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component eBPF. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

It was discovered that the eBPF implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly track bounds information for 32 bit registers when performing div and mod operations. A local attacker could use this to possibly execute arbitrary code.

The weakness was disclosed 01/08/2024 as USN-5003-1. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2021-3600 since 06/12/2021. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 11/21/2025).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 276015 (TencentOS Server 4: kernel (TSSA-2025:0349)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 5.11 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (276015). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
