Details
A vulnerability was found in jsrsasign up to 10.x and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the component RSA PKCS1.5/RSAOAEP. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information exposure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-203. The product behaves differently or sends different responses under different circumstances in a way that is observable to an unauthorized actor, which exposes security-relevant information about the state of the product, such as whether a particular operation was successful or not. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Versions of the package jsrsasign before 11.0.0 are vulnerable to Observable Discrepancy via the RSA PKCS1.5 or RSAOAEP decryption process. An attacker can decrypt ciphertexts by exploiting the Marvin security flaw. Exploiting this vulnerability requires the attacker to have access to a large number of ciphertexts encrypted with the same key. Workaround The vulnerability can be mitigated by finding and replacing RSA and RSAOAEP decryption with another crypto library.
The weakness was released 01/22/2024 as 598. The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2024-21484 since 12/22/2023. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
