Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in 0xJacky nginx-ui up to 2.0.0.beta.11 (Web Server). Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the file write_file.go of the component Certificate Import. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Nginx-UI is a web interface to manage Nginx configurations. The Import Certificate feature allows arbitrary write into the system. The feature does not check if the provided user input is a certification/key and allows to write into arbitrary paths in the system. It's possible to leverage the vulnerability into a remote code execution overwriting the config file app.ini. Version 2.0.0.beta.12 fixed the issue.
The weakness was released 01/29/2024 as GHSA-xvq9-4vpv-227m. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-23827 since 01/22/2024.
