Details
A vulnerability was found in moby buildkit up to 0.12.4. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
BuildKit is a toolkit for converting source code to build artifacts in an efficient, expressive and repeatable manner. Two malicious build steps running in parallel sharing the same cache mounts with subpaths could cause a race condition that can lead to files from the host system being accessible to the build container. The issue has been fixed in v0.12.5. Workarounds include, avoiding using BuildKit frontend from an untrusted source or building an untrusted Dockerfile containing cache mounts with --mount=type=cache,source=... options.
The weakness was shared 02/01/2024 as GHSA-m3r6-h7wv-7xxv. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2024-23651 since 01/19/2024. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
