Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in vim up to 9.0.2141 (Word Processing Software). Affected is the function did_set_langmap of the file map.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Vim before 9.0.2142 has a stack-based buffer overflow because did_set_langmap in map.c calls sprintf to write to the error buffer that is passed down to the option callback functions.
The weakness was released 02/05/2024 as b39b240c386a5a29241415541f1c99e2e6b8ce47. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-22667 since 01/11/2024.
