Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Cisco Secure Endpoint, Secure Endpoint Private Cloud Administration Portal and Secure Endpoint Private Cloud Console (Cloud Software) (affected version unknown) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component ClamAV. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer over-read vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-126. The product reads from a buffer using buffer access mechanisms such as indexes or pointers that reference memory locations after the targeted buffer. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

A vulnerability in the OLE2 file format parser of ClamAV could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device. This vulnerability is due to an incorrect check for end-of-string values during scanning, which may result in a heap buffer over-read. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by submitting a crafted file containing OLE2 content to be scanned by ClamAV on an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the ClamAV scanning process to terminate, resulting in a DoS condition on the affected software and consuming available system resources. For a description of this vulnerability, see the ClamAV blog .

The weakness was released 02/07/2024 as cisco-sa-clamav-hDffu6t. The advisory is shared at sec.cloudapps.cisco.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2024-20290 since 11/08/2023. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

Goodmorning,
ClamAV 1.2.2 and ClamAV 1.0.5 are critical patch versions with the following fixes:

CVE-2024-20290 (Public): Fixed a possible heap overflow read bug in the OLE2 file parser that could cause a denial-of-service (DoS) condition.
Affected versions:
1.0.0 through 1.0.4 (LTS)
1.1 (all patch versions)
1.2.0 and 1.2.1

CVE-2024-20328 (Reserved): Fixed a possible command injection vulnerability in the "VirusEvent" feature of ClamAV's ClamD service.

Could You append to CVEs the following cpes:
cisco:clamav
OR
clamav:clamav

We'd appreciate it very much.
Best Regards,
TEAM CERT
