Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in diffoscope up to 255. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block of the component GPG File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
diffoscope before 256 allows directory traversal via an embedded filename in a GPG file. Contents of any file, such as ../.ssh/id_rsa, may be disclosed to an attacker. This occurs because the value of the gpg --use-embedded-filenames option is trusted.
The weakness was published 02/11/2024 as 361. The advisory is shared at salsa.debian.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2024-25711 since 02/11/2024. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
