A vulnerability was found in Ipswitch Imail 8.2 Hotfix 2/8.13 (Mail Server Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the file jsp of the component Web Calendar. The manipulation of the argument string with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in the Web Calendaring server in Ipswitch Imail 8.13, and other versions before IMail Server 8.2 Hotfix 2, allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via "..\" (dot dot backslash) sequences in the query string argument in a GET request to a non-existent .jsp file.

The bug was discovered 05/24/2005. The weakness was presented 05/25/2005 by Sebastian Apelt with iDEFENSE Labs (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at ipswitch.com.
