A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in pinterest querybook up to 3.31.1. Affected is an unknown code block of the component Result Highlight Handler. Querybook is a Big Data Querying UI. When a user searches for their queries, datadocs, tables and lists, the search result is marked and highlighted, and this feature uses dangerouslySetInnerHTML which means that if the highlighted result has an XSS payload it will trigger. While the input to dangerouslySetInnerHTML is not sanitized for the data inside of queries which leads to an XSS vulnerability. During the "query auto-suggestion" the name of the suggested tables are set with innerHTML which leads to the XSS vulnerability. A patch to rectify this issue has been introduced in Querybook version 3.31.2.
The weakness was disclosed 02/28/2024 as GHSA-3hjm-9277-5c88. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-27103 since 02/19/2024. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Upgrading to version 3.31.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 449bdc9e7d679e042c3718b7ed07d2ffa3c46a8f is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
