A vulnerability was found in OpenZeppelin openzeppelin-contracts up to 4.9.5/5.0.0-rc0 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function Base64.encode. OpenZeppelin Contracts is a library for secure smart contract development. The `Base64.encode` function encodes a `bytes` input by iterating over it in chunks of 3 bytes. When this input is not a multiple of 3, the last iteration may read parts of the memory that are beyond the input buffer. The vulnerability is fixed in 5.0.2 and 4.9.6.
The weakness was presented 02/29/2024 as GHSA-9vx6-7xxf-x967. The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-27094 since 02/19/2024. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 4.9.6 or 5.0.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 2d081f24cac1a867f6f73d512f2022e1fa987854 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
