Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.36/5.11.20/5.12.3 (Operating System). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function dma_iv of the component sun8i-ss. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: sun8i-ss - Fix memory leak of object d when dma_iv fails to map In the case where the dma_iv mapping fails, the return error path leaks the memory allocated to object d. Fix this by adding a new error return label and jumping to this to ensure d is free'd before the return. Addresses-Coverity: ("Resource leak")
The weakness was disclosed 03/01/2024. The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2021-47057 since 02/29/2024. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 247783 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2021-47057), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
