Details
A vulnerability was found in Pico Server up to 3.2. It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in Pico Server (pServ) 3.3 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files and execute arbitrary commands via a /./ (slash dot slash) before each .. (dot dot) sequence in the URL, which results in an incorrect directory depth count.
The bug was discovered 06/11/2005. The weakness was shared 06/16/2005 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at sourceforge.net. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2005-1952 since 06/14/2005. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
