Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.198/5.15.135/6.1.56/6.5.6 (Operating System). Affected by this issue is the function scsi_done of the component RDMA. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/srp: Do not call scsi_done() from srp_abort() After scmd_eh_abort_handler() has called the SCSI LLD eh_abort_handler callback, it performs one of the following actions: * Call scsi_queue_insert(). * Call scsi_finish_command(). * Call scsi_eh_scmd_add(). Hence, SCSI abort handlers must not call scsi_done(). Otherwise all the above actions would trigger a use-after-free. Hence remove the scsi_done() call from srp_abort(). Keep the srp_free_req() call before returning SUCCESS because we may not see the command again if SUCCESS is returned.
The weakness was presented 03/02/2024. The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-52515 since 02/20/2024. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 12/11/2024).
Upgrading to version 5.10.199, 5.15.136, 6.1.57, 6.5.7 or 6.6 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 26788a5b48d9/b9bdffb3f9aa/2b298f918158/05a10b316ada/e193b7955dfa is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
