Summary
A vulnerability labeled as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.11. This affects the function dbgfs_target_ids_read of the component dbgfs. Such manipulation leads to information disclosure.
This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2021-47088. No exploit exists.
The affected component should be upgraded.
Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.11 (Operating System). Affected by this issue is the function dbgfs_target_ids_read of the component dbgfs. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/damon/dbgfs: protect targets destructions with kdamond_lock DAMON debugfs interface iterates current monitoring targets in 'dbgfs_target_ids_read()' while holding the corresponding 'kdamond_lock'. However, it also destructs the monitoring targets in 'dbgfs_before_terminate()' without holding the lock. This can result in a use_after_free bug. This commit avoids the race by protecting the destruction with the corresponding 'kdamond_lock'.
The weakness was disclosed 03/04/2024. The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2021-47088 since 02/29/2024. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
Upgrading to version 5.15.12 or 5.16 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 330c6117a82c/34796417964b is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
