A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Squid Web Proxy up to 6.7.x (Firewall Software). This issue affects an unknown code block of the component HTTP Chunked Decoder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a recursion vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-674. The product does not properly control the amount of recursion that takes place, consuming excessive resources, such as allocated memory or the program stack. Impacted is availability. Squid is a web proxy cache. Starting in version 3.5.27 and prior to version 6.8, Squid may be vulnerable to a Denial of Service attack against HTTP Chunked decoder due to an uncontrolled recursion bug. This problem allows a remote attacker to cause Denial of Service when sending a crafted, chunked, encoded HTTP Message. This bug is fixed in Squid version 6.8. In addition, patches addressing this problem for the stable releases can be found in Squid's patch archives. There is no workaround for this issue.
The weakness was presented 03/06/2024. The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2024-25111 since 02/05/2024. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 6.8.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
