A vulnerability has been found in ClamAV up to 0.85.1 (Anti-Malware Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function cli_msexpand. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory allocation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-789. The product allocates memory based on an untrusted, large size value, but it does not ensure that the size is within expected limits, allowing arbitrary amounts of memory to be allocated. The MS-Expand file handling in Clam AntiVirus (ClamAV) before 0.86 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (file descriptor and memory consumption) via a crafted file that causes repeated errors in the cli_msexpand function.

The weakness was released 07/05/2005 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at idefense.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-1922 since 06/08/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy.
