A vulnerability has been found in XOOPS up to 2.0.11 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function loginuser of the file bloggerapi.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
SQL injection vulnerability in the loginUser function in the XMLRPC server in XOOPS 2.0.11 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands and bypass authentication via crafted values in an XML file, as demonstrated using the blogger.getPost method.

The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. By approaching the search of inurl:bloggerapi.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 18614 (XOOPS < 2.0.12 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 3618.
